For a long time, I was struggling to find a good place to mount Sat-nav on my 2019 KTM 690 Enduro R

I use this bike for exploring, which often leads to gnarly terrain and single tracks. With my riding skills, this means a lot of falling, sometimes over handlebars. For this reason, and a few others, I am not a fan of rally towers (for my kind of riding and my skill).

Next option was one of the clamps that are mounted on the handlebars and extend forward, offering a 12 mm crossbar (above the dash), which can be used for GPS mounts. This was not an option for me, because it would require re-routing the cables, as they could caught the GPS unit when forks compress.

I also wanted to avoid using RAM arms, to reduce the vibrations and chance of braking the assembly in a case of a fall.

So, I went for old-fashioned mounting on the handlebars. However, it was not an easy task, because I have BRP sub-mount and Scott steering stabilizer installed.

To cut the long story short, I designed and fabricated Upper handlebar clamp, with M4 threaded holes in AMPS bolt pattern

It fits on majority of KTM and Husqvarna bikes with 38x90 or 40x90 bolt pattern (bolt pattern of bolts holding the upper handlebar clamp to the lower handlebar clamp).

More importantly, in this case, it fits on BRP sub-mounts for KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701 bikes.

It can be mounted to face the headlight or rider. With several AMPS position there is approx. 30 mm of fore - aft adjustability. It also offers horizontal or vertical AMPS patterns.

All AMPS holes are M4 threaded. Threads are formed, not cut, which should provide decent durability. Installing GPS or phone cradle is just a simple bolt-on procedure. Here is how Garmin Zumo XT mount looks like, in the position closest to the rider.

And here is the Garmin Zumo XT installed.

This is line of sight for me, sitting at the rear part of the seat. I am approx. 186 cm tall. I can see entire dash of my 2019 KTM 690 Enduro R

And, as shown here, there is no chance that cables will interfere with the GPS.

As with all single upper handlebar clamps, additional feature of this one is that it adds the stiffness to the handlebars, minimizing a chance for handlebar twist, in a case of a fall.

Overall, I am very happy with this setup. It probably is not the best option for fast street riding, as GPS is not near the line of sight. But for adventure riding, when you have the time to stop, check the track and continue, it works great. Also, GPS unit is close to the handlebars and secure. I did put a lanyard on my Zumo XT, so I can tie it to the handlebars, as a extra precaution, but it vibrates a lot less than if it was mounted on RAM arm.
